Type Locality and Naming
Along the Shirkent River, tributary of the Surkhandarya River. V.N. Shvanov, 1961 (504, p.76). Stratotype on the Karatag River, tributary of the Surkhandarya.
Synonym: Shirkent Suite, Ширкентская св.
Lithology and Thickness
Conglomerates, gravelites, brownish-red, lilac sandstones with layers of siltstone (aleurolites). Thickness 30-160m.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
Transgressively overlies the Paleozoic and with erosion on the Karabil Fm
Upper contact
Overlain with erosion by the Kyzyltash Fm
Regional extent
South, Central Gissar. Correlated with the upper parts of the Karabil, Almurad, and lower parts of the Kyzyltash suites (taken together).
